After several months of playing hide and seek, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has finally arrested and detained, Yahaya Bello, the immediate past governor of Kogi State.
Bello, who presented himself at the headquarters of the EFCC in Abuja on Tuesday, was detained, according to information released by Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity.
The former governor, who came to the EFCC office with his lawyers had for long failed to honour invitation by the anti-graft agency over alleged misappropriation of funds.
The EFCC had on April 18, 2024, declared Bello wanted in connection with an N80.2 billion money laundering allegation after he consistently refused to appear before it for questioning.
However, following Tuesday’s appearance at the EFCC office, Bello was arrested by the Commission’s Chief Security Officer.
“It is true that we have him in our custody. The operatives of the Commission arrested him,” Oyewale confirmed.
