Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM) has called for support to cater for victims of internal migration as a result of Boko Haram onslaught in some parts of Nigeria.

The call was made by JIFORM when a delegation led by its President, Ajibola Abayomi visited the Home for The Needy Foundation in Benin City, Edo State housing over 4000 victims of Boko Haram from different parts of northern Nigeria.

The centre founded by Pastor Solomon Folorunsho played host to the JIFORM team that comprised Vice President, West Africa, Mrs Bimbo Oyetunde, Isaac Olamikan and other journalists from Radio Nigeria and Africa Independent Television based in Benin City.

Ajibola said the team was at the centre to understudy its operations so as to suggest areas of assistance to philanthropists in society.

He praised Pastor Solomon for his large heart and vision on saying “what God is doing through you is what we expect from religious bodies like Christian Association of Nigeria and the government. We must be willing to assist the needy.

“Government must have provision to reintegrate people that are displaced as a result of internal crisis into the society. We must be concerned about everyone especially women and kids”.

Making her submission, Pastor Evelyn Omigie, one of the social workers stated that the home needed more drugs for its medical centre, feeding of the IDPs and financial support for the education and vocational training of the victims.

Speaking, Solomon made case for the trio of 21 years old Suleiman Ayuba, Plutemon Usman aged 22 and Iliya Isaku, 25 that have secured admissions to study law and medicine at the Igbinendion University, Benin City having passed through the secondary school at the needy foundation.

“That the IDPs that are here today after what they have gone through still have hope of better tomorrow is a joy to me. Wherever they find themselves giving the training we had given them, they would be useful to their communities.

“Feeding over four thousand kids and adults twice a day is beyond my knowledge. I am appealing and praying that God should touch the hearts of the privileged ones in the society to assist us to cater for the education of these kids.”

He debunked the insinuations that some Muslims were being converted to Christians at the centre.

“We have the record of everyone here. They were all from the Christian communities in the northern Nigeria where Boko Haram attacked.

“This foundation started in 1992 as home for the needy from broken marriages, orphanage and the less privilege. Through divine help, I can tell you that we have produced more than four lawyers, engineers and doctor trained from here. One of the children we cared for here is now a lawyer with the Edo State ministry of Justice.

“These people are being raised to be useful to the society as future leaders. They are free to reunite with their communities and love ones subject to their wishes and whenever their personal safety is guaranteed at their place of birth.”
