Palpable fear has gripped Umuezeala Nsu Autonomous Community in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, following invasion of the area by unknown elements suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
The invaders had yesterday cleared a large expanse of land in Umuduruehie, one of the 12 villages in the community where they planned to settle down with their cattle.
However, a man reportedly saw them from from atop a palm tree in when he went to harvest palm fruits for his client and quietly came to alert the villagers who were holding a meeting.
The youths quickly mobilised but were dissuaded from going to confront the herdsmen since it was late in the evening.
By the time they stormed the area earlier this morning, the herdsmen had fled, leaving behind mats and clothing.
Residents of the area have expressed deep fears in view of the many reported violent acts of the herdsmen and are calling on security operatives to beef up security around the town to forestall any crisis.
The President General of Umuezeala Nsu Autonomous Community, Barr. Mag Agu, has appealed to the people to remain calm and vigilant while efforts are being made to get to the root of the matter.
