About 10 of the workers have so far been rescued, some of them nursing grave injuries and rushed to hospital. However, two were feared dead.
Rescuers from the Red Cross were busy at the scene helping to evacuate both the injured and the dead to health facilities in the state capital.
The cause of the collapse is not yet known but people speculated that the pillars could be weak and, therefore, unable to bear the weight of eight floors.
