Appeal Court overrules Tribunal, affirms Abdullahi Sule as Nasarawa gov.

The Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja, has disagreed with the Nasarawa State governorship election petition tribunal, which sacked Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the Governor of Nasarawa State.
The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of justices,  led by Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam, held that the tribunal erred in law in its conclusion that Governor Sule did not win majority of the votes cast in the election, adding that he was denied a fair hearing.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared Sule as winner of the election with 347,209 votes while David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, polled 283,016 votes to come second.

However, dissatisfied with the outcome of the governorship election, citing alleged irregularities, the PDP approached the election petition tribunal, which on October 2 upturned Sule’s victory, which the appellate court has now restored.
