APC Ward Congress: Parallel exercise looms in Kwara

The All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kwara State, is set to hold Ward Congresses in the 193 wards this Saturday, party’s Caretaker Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Samari, has said.
However, another faction led by Information & Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and their caretaker Chairman, Hon. Bashir Omolaja vowed to do their congresses too.
The development is pointing to seeming parallel congresses across the state which is causing apprehensions among the people according to the findings by this reporter.

To kick off the exercise, the Kwara APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Alhaji Samari who was accompanied by the National Committee members assigned to conduct the exercise in the 193 Wards in Kwara addressed a press conference in Ilorin, the state capital.
Speaking at the briefing, Samari said in line with Article 11: A sub-section (i-xiii) and Article 16 (i) of the party constitution (as ammended), ward congresses of APC would hold across the 16 Local Governmrnts in the State as directed by the Caretaker/Extra Ordinary Convention Planning Committee led by Mai Mala Buni, the governor of Yobe State.
He told the press briefing that the national committee in a bid to ensure internal democracy and conformity with the rules of the party issued out guidelines that would satisfy internal democracy in the state party by ensuring inclusive participation which would allow qualified members to vote and be voted for.
He allayed the fears of citizens and party members that there would be a breakdown of law and order in the course of the Saturday congresses in the saying; “we are one family and this exercise will accommodate every member” while responding to questions by journalists.
According the apprehension is unexpected though as a human development but pointed out that adequate security provisions across the state had been put in place by both the party, the government and the security agencies.
Meanwhile, in a reaction to the development, Comrade Raufu Bello; a chieftain of the other APC faction led by the duo of Minister Lai Mohamned and Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa said they would equally hold their congresses across the 16 Local Government areas.
This reporter was of the opinion that with the other faction’s position therefore, the Kwara APC congresses would be parallel in the Local Government areas across the state on Saturday.
