APC crisis deepens as group shuns party’s choice of Gbajabiamila for Speaker

More trouble is brewing for the All Progressives Congress (APC) as its endorsement of House leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, as the 9th House of Representatives Speaker was rejected by a north-central elders’ forum.

The Forum, during a press conference, on Tuesday, in Abuja, announced its support for the deputy leader of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase, as the next Speaker, it was gathered.

Speaking for the Forum, Muhammadu Ari-Gwaska, said the group threw its weight behind Wase after due consultations and because of his wide experience as a lawmaker.

The group, said it believed that another contestant from the zone, Umaru Bago, would step down for Wase, while also vowing to resist attempt to shortchange the north central zone in power-sharing, Ari-Gwaska said:

“The people of this zone have over the years molded our diversity into a strong quilt that has strengthened us with the capacity to engage and interrogate the exogenous manipulation of power, leadership and patronage among the comity of nations to bring into sharp focus the understanding of our place as a bridge in the Nigerian Project.”

The Forum also urged the ruling party to reverse its endorsement of the Lagos lawmaker Gbajabiamila and field in Wase as its candidate for the prestigious position.
