Confusion has taken over the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following reports of the removal of Yobe State Governor, Mala Buni, as its interim national chairman.
In his stead, Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger State has been reportedly appointed to oversee the affairs of the party.

However, despite the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari allegedly approved the change of guards before leaving for his trip to London, the Buni camp has denied any such development, insisting it is still in charge of the party.
Consequently, armed police officers stationed in strategic areas of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja to maintain law and order.
The security operatives blocked the Blantyre Street in Wuse 2 where the APC headquarters is situated, and denied passersby use of the road.
According to the APC interim secretary, John Akpanudoedehe: “The media report is fake news and should be disregarded.
“The APC is a progressive political party guided by rules. Leadership changes are not announced by ‘sources’ through name dropping in the media.

“We urge our teeming supporters, members and indeed the general public to remain calm and support the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led APC CECPC conduct a rancour-free and credible National Convention deserving of our great party,”
However, Governor Bello had reportedly said he has been acting as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Caretaker Committee “for a while now”.
Bello addressed journalists after presiding over a meeting of the APC’s National Caretaker committee at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, saying: “I have been acting for a while since the chairman travelled.”
