AOCOED lecturers begin strike on Friday

The Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) Ijanikin Chapter of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) says it will resume its suspended strike, on Friday, August 30.

The strike notice signed by the union’s chairman, Mr Ige Ajayi, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said that the strike would be indefinite.

The notice explained that the  decision to embark on the strike, followed a resolution and directive of the union’s congress, held on the August15.

“It has become obvious that the college management and the governing council, are not genuinely interested in proferring solutions to the demands of our union.

“The union demanded for immediate commencement of payment of 53.3 per cent allowances and arrears, resuscitation of internally generated revenue programme.

“Payment of all outstanding honoraria, promotion criteria, establishment of college and school based bookshop, release of N22.8million TETFUND money to beneficiaries, ” it stated.

According to the notice , the strike became imperative having explored possible avenues to avert the resumption of the suspended strike by the union.

“The executive council of the union hereby declares the resumption of the suspended strike of Wednesday, July 10, to take effect from Aug. 30 indefinitely, as directed by the congress of the union.

“By this announcement all academic activities are suspended forthwith, ” it said.

NAN reports that the Non-academic Staff Union of the college under the auspices of Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education of Nigeria (SSUCOEN), had also embarked on indefinite strike to drive home some demands . (NAN)
