From George Aluo, Cairo
A very bitter Super Eagles fan, Patrick Nkwocha has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to dissolve its technical committee led by Ahmed Fresh with immediate effect, insisting that the committee should be blamed for Super Eagles failure in Egypt.
Nkwocha who stated that he is still writhing in the pains of Eagles failure to get past Algeria in yesterday’s semi final pointed out that a vibrant technical committee would not have allowed Gernot Rohr to take some grossly incompetent players to Egypt.
“If the NFF had a sound technical committee, I don’t think Rohr would have had his way in taking Daniel Akpeyi, Francis Uzoho and Paul Onuachu to mention but a few to Egypt. Eagles literally played without a keeper in the tournament. A good goalkeeper keeps his team in the game when the chips are down. We didn’t see that in Akpeyi. What value did the over hyped Paul Onuachu add to the team? If the NFF had a sound technical committee like they had when it was headed by Felix Anyansi Agwu, Rohr would have been checkmated. Fresh, who heads that committee knows next to nothing about football and that has got to change if our football must move forward. The next thing they would do now is to heap the blame on Rohr which would amount to curing symptoms rather than attacking the illness itself. Fresh should step down as chairman of technical committee,” Nkwocha stated.
Nkwocha who sent an email from Lagos to The Nigerian Xpress sports moments after Eagles defeat stressed that the Algerians were better in yesterday’s game and deserves their final ticket, even as he added that Algeria and Senegal would play a befitting final that Africa would be proud of.
He was quick to add that he sees Senegal winning their first AFCON title as in his words…”The Terranga Lions will beat Algeria to lift the trophy for the first time.”
