Anambra Assembly urges government to enforce use of first aid kits by motorists

Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to enforce the use of first aid kits in vehicles plying the roads.

Mrs Rita Maduagwu, Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly read out the resolution on Tuesday during its plenary session in Awka.

The lawmakers urged the governor to direct the Commissioner for Road, Rail and Water Transportation to ensure the enforcement.

The resolution was sequel to a motion sponsored by Mr Edward Ibuzo (APGA) representing Onitsha North 2 Constituency.

Ibuzo said that the safety of road users was of overriding importance to the government and that in the event of road accident it would be imperative to provide First Aid to victims before taking them to a nearest hospital.

He said that effective implementation of the provision of the National Road Traffic Regulation Act 2012 would go a long way in checking accidents in the state roads.

Mr Lawrence Ezeudu, member representing Dunukofia Constituency (APGA) in his contribution said that the motion was apt adding that other relevant agencies should sensitise the public on the need to have first aid kits in their vehicles.

Mr Timothy Ifedioramma, member representing Njikoka 1 Constituency (APGA) said that commercial vehicle operators must be made to have the first aid kits because of number of persons they carried regularly.

He said that lives of their passengers should be considered as important before leaving their parks as such government agencies are to ensure total compliance. (NAN)
