A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and councillor representing Ward C, Upper Ikosi in Ikosi-Isheri local government area, Adedeji Osinowo has urged politicians and well-to-do individuals to always give back to the community where they grew up.
Osinowo spoke at the 2024 annual end of the year Christmas party organised by him for children and youth within the community held at Sonaike street, Ikosi-Isheri Lagos.
According to him, having grown up in the community and becoming a politician, he along other sponsors decided to fete the children annually as a way of giving back to their community.
He said the idea started 15-years ago when they began to host the youth to an end of the year party but this year decided to extend it to include children.
“We organised this party because the children are on holiday. We wanted all of them to come together, both children of the rich and the poor . We want them to see one another as one,” he said.
He added:” We also see it as a way of giving back to our community. I was born here, grew up here. I was formerly youth leader of Ikosi-Isheri local government but I am now a councillor yet I still live here with my people. So I will.advice politicians to always live among their people and not move out when they get a political appointment. They should also give back to their community.”
Osinowo further said other activities organised for the rest of the year includes a medical outreach for the elderly in the community on Dec. 24 and a street carnival on the 30th.
One of the coordinators of the party , Sulaimon Salaudeen said the Sonaike Youth Association decided to be part of the activity as a way of contributing to the community.
He said the party started in 2018 with 200 children but this year over 500 children attended noting that due to the harsh economic situation in the country, many parents can not afford to take their children shopping.
Sulaimon said the party afforded children the opportunity to have ‘a feel of Christmas.’
He also urged politicians to give back to their community and impact the youth positively in their areas.
