Woman docked for allegedly using her rented apartment as a brothel

The police on Wednesday arraigned one Mavis Nzem in a Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly using her rented apartment as a brothel.

Nzem, who resides at Utako Village Abuja, is charged with operating a brothel.

The Police Prosecution, Mrs. Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that the defendant was arrested by a team of policemen on patrol lead by Ayuba Bala on March 24.

Ijeoma said the according to the First Information Report (FIR) the defendant allegedly rented an apartment and kept about five girls who constituted nuisance within Utako.

She said during police investigation, the defendant could not give satisfactory answer to her actions.

Ukagha said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 201 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 and a surety in like sum.

Maiwada ordered that the surety must be a Federal Civil Servant of Grade Level 14, that must deposit a copy of his first and last promotion letter, official identification card and address verified by a copy staff.

Maiwada also ordered the Utako police to produce the five women for proper interrogation and adjourned the case until May 16, for hearing. (NAN)
