A 39-year-old woman, Iwuagwu Onyinyechi, has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for defrauding a church organisation named MIA enterprise to the tune of N100 million.
The suspect had identified with the organisation under the pretence of assisting the organisation to raise fund for its charity programme.
The arrest of Onyinyechi followed a petition written by the lawyer of the organization Barr. Godswill Ojakovo to the Commissioner of Police Ogun State in which he complained that his client was defrauded by the suspect through an act of forgery.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrest of the suspect, he said Onyinyechi had claimed to have got an LPO from a company known as Location 3 Properties and appealed to MIA organisation to fund the LPO, consequent upon which the sum of N33, 118, 000 was transferred online to her.
Oyeyemi said, “ While the organisation was awaiting for the repayment of the above amount the suspect came with another LPOs she purportedly got from Ancillia Catholic Hospital, Iju and Holifull School, Ikorodu, upon which another sum of N77 million was given to her after showing relevant documents and proves to back her claims.”
The Ogun State PPRO said the petition further stated that as soon as the suspect got the last payment in September 2018, the suspect disappeared into thin air.
“This prompted the church to make discreet enquiries about the LPOs submitted and found out that all the LPOs were forged ones.
“Upon the petition, the Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Ahmed Iiyasu directed the CP’s Monitoring team to go after the suspect and bring her to book.
“The team technically tracked the suspect and got her arrested on 21st of January 2019.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime. She admitted that all the LPOs presented by her were all forged as most of the companies where she claimed to have gotten the LPOs were only imaginary,” the Spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police CP Iliyasu has directed the monitoring team to arraign the suspect in court as soon as the investigation is concluded.
