Why I’m passionate about empowering constituents – Imo Senator, Frank Ibezim

Imo State federal lawmaker, Sen. Frank Ibezim, has explained that he is passionate about creating empowerment and job opportunities for his constituents in order to offer them a better life and reduce crime in the area.

In a little over one year since he took his seat in the hallowed Red Chamber of the National Assembly, the lawmaker,  representing Imo North Senatorial District, has left no one in doubt of his passion for empowerment and job creation for his constituents.

The lawmaker, who vowed to continue creating empowerment opportunities for his constituents, has not relented in doing so.

Just recently, the Distinguished Senator partnered with the Federal Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN, in association with National Business Development Skill Initiative, NBSDI, to initiate a training programme for Imo North youths.

The training covered entrepreneurship, where modules of how to manage businesses, marketing, book keeping and  vocational training and also emphasised registration with statutory authorities.

Also, participants in the five-day training were taught different skills, such as fashion designing, laundry and car wash.

At the end of the programme, the participants were also empowered with sewing machines, washing machines, pressing irons, and car wash equipment, respectively.

Sen. Ibezim had vowed not to relent in encouraging the youths to be patient, as he would continue to make necessary strides in creating opportunities for them and improve on their economic well-being.

Also, the lawmaker collaborated with the National Social Investment Programme, NSIP, under the auspices of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to train and equip ten youths, as independent monitors of the Federal Government NSIP Programmes in the district.

Among others, the beneficiaries were equipped with electronic notepads and uniforms, with stipulated monthly stipends.

Interestingly, some of the empowerment programmes have begun bearing fruits, as 60 beneficiaries, who passed out of the training programme, have now proudly showcased their products.

The beneficiaries, who were drawn, ten each, from the six local governments of the Senatorial District, and trained on confectionery, agro products and packaging for export.

The lawmaker also gave them monetary start-up support.

According to the lawmaker, his passion for empowerment drive was because it would not only enhance the economic lives of his constituents, it was also geared towards reducing social vices among the people.

“All that we have been able to put together is targeted towards achieving one common goal, which is improving the standard of living of our people,” he said.

The senator also promised to deploy every available means to see that he does his best for his constituents, adding that the SFI skill acquisition programme has made a remarkable improvement.
