Why EFCC moved against Obiano, flown to Abuja

It is no longer news that former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano was, on Thursday, arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)  hours after handing over to Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

The ex-governor whose wife was given a resounding slap at Soludo’s inauguration by Bianca, wife of the late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu,  was picked up at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on his way out of the country to the United States.

However, what many do not know is the reason behind his arrest.

Although not much has been said about this, EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, on Friday confirmed that the former governor has been moved to Abuja.

Obiano has been on the EFCC Watch List over suspicion of corrupt practices but the state government had then derided the development, describing it as laughable.

It is now obvious that the anti-graft agency could not do anything to him then because of the immunity he enjoyed as governor.

Uwajaren explained that since the commission could not arrest him, it asked the Nigeria Immigration Service to track his movement out of the country and inform it accordingly.

This tab placed on Obiano paid off and resulted in his arrest Thursday night.
