Agency Report
WhatsApp is reportedly working on a Community feature for the app and it looks like the feature will be linked to the Groups. As per a report on XDADevelopers, the string additions on WhatsApp’s latest beta v2.21.21.6, comes with several new strings that point to the feature called ‘Community’. The string indicates that the tech giant is working on something new. Most of the strings related to Community have a ‘parent_group’ as part of the string ID which makes it look like part of the already existing Groups feature.
When you look closely at the strings, you’ll notice that the new additions exist alongside the Group feature’s strings, indicating that both features may coexist. The company hasn’t officially revealed anything about the new feature yet but few reports suggest that maybe it is just a rename. Apart from this WhatsApp is also said to be working on several other new features.
According to a report by WABetainfo, the platform is working on new voice notes feature that allows you to pause and continue to record a voice note without the need to record another message or send the one that you may have to interrupt. As of now, you can only listen to the voice message you recorded before sending it. It is not yet clear when the new feature will be rolled out to all users as it is not even available to the public beta testers till now but as per the report, the feature will be available on iOS and Android devices in the future beta update.
The company also recently released a new feature called Disappearing Messages. Once enabled, new messages sent in the individual or group chat will disappear after 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days. This setting won’t affect messages you previously sent or received in the chat.
