We’ll forgive you if…Southeast youths list conditions for Buhari

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, has given President Muhammadu Buhari a condition he must fulfil before demanding forgiveness from Nigerians.

DAILY POST recalls that the president on Friday begged Nigerians especially those he might have hurt while discharging his duties to forgive him.

Buhari who is expected to bow out of office in the next few weeks asked Nigerians to pardon him for his administration’s shortcomings.

But in a statement issued on Monday by its President General, Goodluck Ibem, COSEYL told the president to forgive himself first by releasing Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, before showing penitence.

According to the coalition, Buhari’s refusal to release Kanu despite the Appeal Court order, was disrespectful to the country’s constitution, stating that “respect [for] rule of law is the first step to genuine repentance.”

“Buhari should, first of all, forgive himself by obeying the Court of Appeal judgement and release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from Department of State Services, DSS, custody before asking Nigerians to forgive him.

“Anyone who is genuinely asking for forgiveness must, first of all, repent from doing what is wrong and do the right thing by obeying the rule of law and respecting the fundamental human rights of fellow citizens,” the statement added.
