VC selection: UI Senate demands punishment for erring SSANU, NASU members

The Senate of the University of Ibadan has called for sanctions of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of universities for disrupting the process of appointing the 13th Vice Chancellor of the institution on Wednesday, October 28.

Some members of SSANU and NASU, UI chapter had, last Wednesday, disrupted a meeting of the Governing Council of the university chaired by Dr. Joshua Waklek in the wake of their protest.

The unions had called for the suspension of the process aimed at ushering in a new Vice Chancellor on the allegation that the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, supported his favourite for the exalted position.

Following the agitation, the university’s Governing Council suspended the process of selection of the Vice Chancellor.
