UTME: 15-year-old Kwara public school student scores 95 in maths, 362 overall

A student of Government Secondary School Omu Aran in Kwara State, Olukayode Olusola, finished this year’s UTME with a 362 overall score. But what stood out was his mathematics score, which was 95 out of 100 marks.

Olusola who is 15 years old, also scored 95 in Physics and Chemistry, and 77 in English Language.

The lad said he hopes to study Electrical Electronics at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The 15-year-old kid’s high performance puts him among the top contenders for JAMB best this year, especially as his outstanding performance is despite the poor performance of candidates in the exam in which 1.4 million scored less than 200 marks out of 400.

His mother, Beatrice Tosin, praised Olusola’s studious and hard-working nature, according to a Vanguard report.

On Monday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board released the results of the 2024 UTME examination.

The examination board noted that 77 per cent of the 1,842,464 candidates whose 2024 UTME results were released scored less than 200.

However, the Registrar of the JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede said the examination body would not announce the names of the highest-scoring candidates to avoid “a repeat of the Mmesoma saga.”
