US election: Nigerian pastors who supported Trump

Pascal Oparada

When on October 25, Nigerians in the south eastern parts of the country trooped out in their numbers to hold a rally in support of the defeated American President, Donald Trump, they did so mostly on religious and moral grounds.

Trump tweeted the video of Nigerians holding a rally in his support.

“Massive support for us in Nigeria. I appreciate this,” Trump tweeted.

All across the country and in many pulpits, Nigerian pastors are urging their members to pray and support the incumbent American president. But more than asking their members to pray for him, these pastors have openly endorsed the American president.

“If Trump were to be contesting for election in Nigeria, you would have the same dichotomy of south versus North, Christians versus Muslims and not about ideology or issues, Eromosele Odion said.

According to many Nigerians who support the American president, he fights for Christianity and Christians in Nigeria. He has promised to sell or has sold arms to Nigeria to fight Boko Haram. He is anti-gay and anti-abortion, the very opposite of what Barack Obama and Joe Biden stand for.

To them, if Joe Biden mount the saddle, he would compel Nigeria to legalize same-sex marriage, leave Christians in the lurch and will not sell arms to Nigerian to fight insecurity.

Ven. Ezeji

The Venerable Emeka Ezeji, a vicar and archdeacon in the Missionary Christ Anglican Church in Nigeria’s south-eastern Enugu State, says his political views are only determined “by what the scriptures say”, he told the BBC.

“Faith is personal, mine is pro-life… African Christians believe that a Republican president is better for the US and the world,” he said.

He has been praying for Trump to beat Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden in November, and set aside time every day to pray for the president’s recovery when he was recently in the hospital with Coronavirus.

Apostle Johnson Suleman

He prophesied that Trump would lose the election, He said Joe Biden’s presidency would be short-lived. Biden would be impeached and his vice would take over, he said.

According to Suleman who is the General Oversea of Omega Fire Ministry, the problem is not Biden but his running mate, Kamala Harris.

“America should not joke with the next election, because they will support the opponent of the current president.

“Before I go further let me say this, the lord gave me a prophecy last year, two years ago, or so, that Trump will not be re-elected and I was worried.

“I prayed and the Lord spoke to me that anything I tell you is to intercede because they will all support Trump’s opponent. “The opponent is not the issue, but his running mate is. The running mate is a lady and if the opponent wins, he will be impeached for the lady to take over.

“Their agenda is to humiliate him. They have succeeded in making a mockery of him (Trump) in America….. America will be healed,” he said.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

President of Believers LoveWorld and Senior Pastor of Christ Embassy, Chris Oyakhilome, did not hide his support for Trump.

According to Oyakhilome, who came under fire over his statement on 5G and coronavirus, said the reason they want Trump out is because he fights for Christians and Christianity.

Oyakhilome is a viral video said many are angry at Trump because he didn’t come for their sponsorship.

According to the cleric, things will not be calm if Trump is out of the office.

“There are those who think that Trump, the President of the United States, is hated by many Americans. He is not hated by many Americans. I want to tell you the truth. He is not hated, Trump is not the problem. They don’t hate Trump. They hate those that Trump seems to support.

“They are angry at Trump for supporting Christians. So the real ones they hate are you who are Christians. That is what the hatred of Trump is all about. It’s got nothing to do with Trump.

“Before he started giving his voice in support of Christians and before he started giving his voice in support of Israel, he was their darling, they loved him. But because he didn’t come for their sponsorship and they didn’t expect him to become President, they blamed the Christians for voting him into office and that is what they hate him for.

“If you are a Christian, better know this. Don’t think that if we just get Trump out of the way then everything will just calm. It will not be calm. They hate you and he seems to protect you, which is the problem.” he added.
