With 104 votes, Nigeria’s nominee for the position of the Director general of the World Trade organisation (WTO), Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Wednesday emerged winner of the coveted seat.
She defeated her closest rival and South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee.
The Nigerian got 104 votes from 164 member countries to defeat Myung-hee.

With this development, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala becomes the first African and first woman to occupy that office.
The official announcement is expected to be made by the WTO at 3:00p.m Nigerian time.
