UPDATED: Emir Sanusi removed for disrespect to Gov. Ganduje – Kano govt.

The Kano State Government has said that the removal from throne of Emir Lamido Sanusi, on Monday was, among others, disrespect to the Office of the Governor of the state.

The state government announced the removal of Emir Sanusi, on Monday.

Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, who was one of those who announced the removal, also gave reasons for the move.

Alhaji said the removal was with immediate effect.

Director-General, Media and Communications to the Kano State Government, Salihu Yakasai, had also announced the dethronement on his Twitter handle: @Dawisu, on Monday.

Yakassai tweeted: “The Kano State Executive Council has unanimously approved the dethronement of the Emir of Kamo Mallam Muhammad Sanusi II at a special sitting held today by the council.”

Alhaji said Emir Sanusi was dethroned over disrespect to the office of the Governor, occupied by Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, and other government agencies.

He said Emir Sanusi’s actions violated Part 3, Section A-E of Kano State Law.

He said the removal was done in consultation with relevant stakeholders, adding that a new Emir would be announced in due course.

Alhaji urged the people of the state to remain calm and go about their normal businesses.
