Unknown gunmen kill 2 cops in Anambra

 

 

Unidentified gunmen on Thursday killed two police operatives  in Uruagu, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

 

 

The officers were on investigation duties when they were attacked and killed.

 

The attackers reportedly launched a surprise attack on the police officers,  and hurled an improvised explosive device at them during a fierce gun duel that ensued.

 

The IED exploded and killed two officers on the spot.

 

According to a source: “During the exchange of gunfire, the hoodlums tossed an IED at the operatives, and it detonated, killing two of them on the spot.”

 

 

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, who confirmed the incident added that revealed that the police had launched a manhunt for the attackers.

 

“The Joint Security Force has launched a manhunt for the armed men responsible for the murder of two police operatives during an investigation operation early this morning, October 3, 2024, at Uruagu, Nnewi North,” he said

 

“Preliminary reports indicate that the attackers opened fire on sighting the police team and threw an improvised explosive device into their operational vehicle. Unfortunately, two of the officers lost their lives in the line of duty, and the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

 

“We appeal to the public, particularly those who witnessed the incident, to support the police by providing information that could help in tracking down the criminals.”
