Umahi inaugurates 16-man transition c’ittee

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has set up a 16-man Transition Committee with a mandate to midwife the smooth take-off of his second term administration billed to commence on May 29, 2019.

This was the outcome of the state’s Executive Council meeting presided over by the governor at the Government House, Abakaliki, the State capital.

Briefing newsmen at a joint press conference, Commissioner for Information/Orientation, Dr. Emmanuel Onwe, said that the National Vice Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) South-East zone, Chief Austin Umahi, would serve as Chairman, while the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Mr. Hyginus Nwokwu, would serve as co-chairman.

The commissioner further said that the Ebonyi State University Abakaliki has established a Radio Station operating on (88.4 FM )f requency Modulated Band.

“The State Executive Council, on Tuesday, approved the Constitution of the Transition Committee to midwife the incoming administration. The committee will prepare all it takes to have a smooth transition in May 29 2019.”

He named other members of the Transition Committee to include State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, Commissioners for Information Dr Emma Onwe, Culture/Tourism, Mrs. Elizabeth Nwaogbagha, Local Government/Chieftaincy Matters, Barr. Samuel Omironkwo, Principal Secretary to Governor Umahi, Mr. Clement Nweke etc.

Others included one nominee from Office of Deputy Governor; one from Office of the Speaker of House of Assembly and one nominee from State Chief Judge, among others.

In his contribution, the Commissioner for Justice, Chief Cletus Opoke, revealed that the state government has concluded arrangements to forward a bill code named ‘Ebonyi State Investment Protection and Regulatory Bill’ to the state’s House of Assembly for passage into law.

He reiterated that the bill, when passed into law, would attract foreign investments into the state in addition to increase in the State Gross Domestic Product ( GDP).

In a similar development, the Ebonyi State Government has issued an ultimatum to stakeholders of warring communities of Abakaliki/Ikwo to fish out five suspects who on April 5, 2019, who masterminded the killing of five persons along the Abakaliki-Alex Ekwueme Highways.

Commissioner for Internal Security /Conflict Resolution, Dr. Kenneth Ugballa, who made the disclosure, expressed government displeasure over the dastardly act insisting that the killers must be arrested and prosecuted.
