Two nabbed for robbery in Ogun

Two persons have been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for armed robbery in Ajuwon, Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

The state’sPolice Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement, on Tuesday.

Oyeyemi said the suspected robbers, Evans Iyam and Adedayo Taiwo, were arrested on Saturday while on an operation on Damsalam Street in Ajuwon.

He stated, “The suspects were arrested following a distress call received by the police at the Ajuwon Division that a three-man robbery gang had stormed the street and shot indiscriminately, thereby throwing the whole street in a panic.

On receiving the distress call, the DPO, Ajuwon Division, SP Andrew Akinseye, quickly mobilised his anti-robbery team and moved to the scene.”

The PPRO said on sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels, but they were chased by the police and members of the community; two members of the gang, who came on a motorcycle, were apprehended, while the third one escaped with the motorcycle.

Oyeyemi said a locally-made shot gun was recovered from the suspects.

He added that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to coming to the area for the robbery operation from Ishasi in Lagos State.

The PPRO added that the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Mr. Kenneth Ebrimson, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for discreet investigation.

He said Mr. Ebrimson had also ordered a manhunt for the fleeing member of the gang with a view to bringing him to justice within the shortest possible time.
