Two dead, property destroyed in Anambra tanker

A petrol-laden tanker burst into flames in Ogidi, Anambra State, killing two people, injuring many others, destroying 14 buses and many property worth several millions of naira.

The tanker, which was conveying inflammable content to an undisclosed destination, was parked when another articulated vehicle lost control and rammed into it, forcing it to fall into a nearby drainage.

Consequently, the tanker spilled its contents and immediately burst into flames.

Luxury buses parked near the area caught fire while shops and buildings in the vicinity were also engulfed in the blaze.

The Anambra State Chief Fire Service Officer, Martin Agbili, confirmed the incident, adding that the fire could have spread to other areas but for the quick arrival of his men and assistance from other nearby stations.

He put the casualty figures at two, while 14 buses and properties were burnt.
