Two children die as building collapses in Lagos

Two children reportedly lost their lives on Wednesday, when a storey building at No. 46, Gafari Balogun Street, Ogudu, in Lagos State, collapsed. 

Eyewitnesses account had it that the building collapse, which happened around 12:40 p.m, on Wednesday, was caused by mudslide, following the downpour.

It was learnt that the remains of the children was found in the rubble of the collapsed building by emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

In a statement by the Director General/CEO of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency  (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the bodies of the children had been deposited at a morgue.

He also stated that the part of the building that survived the collapse has been cordoned off, and will be subjected to integrity test.

In his words, “On arrival at the scene by agency responders, it was observed that a building collapsed as a result of a mud slide at the rear of the building caused by heavy rainfall.

“The agents were informed that two children, one male and one female were trapped and immediately commenced a search and rescue operation.

“Unfortunately, they were found dead and their remains are being transported to the mortuary. Integrity test will be carried out on the remainder of the building which has now been cordoned off.”
