Twitter flagged down tweets by Nigeria’s Minister of State for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo for violating its rules after he said musician, Eedris Abdulkareem hustled him for a job before the 2019 elections.
The minister had embarked on a tweetstorm on Saturday and released private messages between him and the musician, including his phone number in which he said Eedris released a diss track on him because he declined to give him money to campaign for President Buhari.
Twitter took down most of the minister’s tweets which included chats he had with the singer and placed a warning label under the remaining ones.
Nigerians were aghast after Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, released the private messages he exchanged with the singer.
Many had said the minister’s action amounted to a violation of Eedris’ privacy and begged him to take down the tweets.
Others said the minister was within his rights to have released what they called receipts to prove his innocence after the singer tried to cajole him through a song.
Eedris had, in a remix of his popular song Jagajaga, said Keyamo is now a member of Buhari’s cabal and said he is now part of those embezzling Nigeria’s treasury.
According to Twitter Privacy Policy, Keyamo may be suspended from the microblogging site due to the violation.
Prominent people, including Joe Abbah have waded into the saga saying Keyamo should not have released messages he exchanged with the singer.
