Nigerians are happy after it emerged that Adamu Garba’s social media app, Crowee, has been taken down by Google in its Play Store on Monday.
Garba has touted the app as a rival to Twitter which was banned in Nigeria this month. He boasted that the app has defeated Twitter in Nigeria and likened it to David and Goliath fight.
But on Monday, Nigerians noticed that the app was no longer in Google Play Store due to bad reviews.
One reviewer likened the app to a phishing site that collects data from users and steals their money.
Another user said he had to destroy his phone after installing the app as his phone kept restarting.
Nigerians took to social media to mock Garba who defended the Twitter ban in Nigeria.
@Aprokodoctor said: Adamu Garba played to the gallery because he felt Crowwe was going to fill the gap. I hope he learns from this
He didn’t care about rights or the freedom of speech, it didn’t matter to him. He just wanted to be seen as siding the people who had the “power”
Sadly… He lost,” he said..
“It seems Crowwe has been removed from the Playstore. Another week, another huge L for Adamu Garba. He has so far been the biggest loser in all of this. My heart goes out to him in this very touch time. All that effort and money gone into the drain. Crowwe in the mud,” Kevin Odanz said.
@iam_wilsons said that despite his support for Buhari’s government, the administration chose the India-owned Koo app over his Crowwe.
“Adamu Garba must be in severe pain rn. FG ditched his App for Koo, and Play Store has now taken Crowwe out too,” he said.
@Daddy_Nomso said: “Adamu Garba mocked EndSARS victims last year & wanted to sue Twitter, he thought he won with the twitter ban but instead NG Govt used Koo App, got exposed for stealing Spotify’s T&C, Crowwe got negative reviews till the app ratings dropped to 1.0 & finally Google Deleted it.”
But Adamu said he had asked Google to take down the app for an update, saying it would be back on the Store latest by Tuesday.
Apart from the bad review that dogged the app, it was also reported for plagiarising music app, Spotify’s Terms and Conditions verbatim.
