Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano State governor, has lamented that hired miscreants hid behind the recent EndBadGovernance nationwide protests to attack the State High Court and carted away all the documents as regards the trial of Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, over alleged corruption.
Yusuff on Wednesday embarked on an assessment visit to the State High Court, and expressed concern that the corruption charges case files of the former governor had been taken away from the court.
He was conducted round the court premises by the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Isah Dederi, Chief Registrar of the High Court, Abdullahi Ado Bayero, and other High Court Judges of the state, and visibly angry with the state of damage at the court.
Mr Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa,the Governor’s spokesperson, made this disclosure in a press statement made available to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday.
He described the vandalism as a masterminded and staged-managed mission during which the hired miscreants carted away vital documents, relating to Ganduje’s multiple corruption charges before the state High Court.
The statement read: “It is very unfortunate that enemies of Kano State hired undesirable elements to vandalise one of the historic public buildings with a mission of averting corruption charges against the Ag. National Chairman of APC and former governor of the state Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his family and aides.”
The statement added that virtually all units of the High Court, including the office of the state Chief Judge were destroyed.
He estimated the losses through the stealing of office equipment, destroying offices, burning cars and other relevant materials crucial to the dispensation of justice to be over one billion naira.
The governor charged the youths in the state to resist being used by detractors to engage in violence, urging them to concentrate on skills acquisition for a better future.
He vowed that the government would remain unrelenting in safeguarding the lives and property of the residents of the state.
While commiserating with the Chief Judge, Dije Abdu Aboki, and the entire Judiciary family for the ugly incident, the governor assured that the judiciary as the last hope of the common man must be protected at all costs and directed the immediate rehabilitation of the building and deployment of adequate security for effective justice delivery.
