Trouble as gunmen raid Rivers police station, free detainees

Unknown gunmen have raided a division of the Rivers State Police Command in the Okrika Local Government Area and successfully released some detainees.

It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the division and forcefully opened the back door of the cell to aid escape of those detained in its cell.

The state police command confirmed the attack in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Patrick Longe to carry out prompt and full-scale investigation into the matter.

He also directed the DCP to ensure that all officers implicated in the incident are detained.
