Tragedy as building collapse kills 10 in Ibadan

 

Ten people have died in the early hours of Thursday morning in a building collapse which occurred at Jegede Olorunsogo on Ona Ara local government area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

Seven people were rescued alive from the rubbles.

According to the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services, Rev. Akinyemi Akinyinka, at a briefing , the agency received distress calls from the people in the neighborhood at 2 a.m informing them of a building that collapsed.

“May I inform you that Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distress call at around 2 am this morning at Jegede Olunloyo area, Ibadan, of which 10 persons have been recovered from the debris of the collapsed building, while seven persons were rescued alive.”

“Rescue operation is still going on. I thank you,” he said.

Details of the causes of the incident are still sketchy but Akinyemi said the public will be informed after the investigation is concluded.
