Lagos Traffic Radio, 96.1FM on Thursday began its first Live Camera Updates of traffic situations across the state.
The live camera reportage is a technological driven system where traffic situations in every part of the state are directly monitored live from a screen in the studio.
According to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who was represented by the Commissioner For Transportation, Seun Osiyemi, at the unveiling of the live camera updates. the. innovation was a testament to the administration’s resolve to deploy state-of-the-art technology to drive effectiveness and efficiency in government operation and service delivery.

He added that the live camera updates were part of other technology driven initiatives adopted by the government to enhance free flow of traffic in the metropolis.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said the new system would address challenges ranging from inaccurate description of updates of traffic reports and change the dynamics of traffic reportage.
It will enable real-time reportage of traffic situations as shown live from cameras situated at strategic locations of the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso in his speech said technology deployed connects the radio station to cameras installed on 300 roads across the state which in turn allows it to monitor traffic movements in every part of the state.
The commissioner said the rural migration nature of Lagos State with about 3,000 vehicles moving into the state on a daily basis means the state is always locked down with traffic, which necessitated the need to find solutions to the problem.
He further said since the radio station was established on May 29th, 2012, it has evolved through several initiatives geared towards the actualization of traffic reportage.

Omotoso added that in 2021, the station introduced Live MotorBike Reports to cater for
accident-induced congestion, and has aided on-the-spot of about 1,250 live broadcasts of causes of unusually busy traffic log jams.
He said the new initiative was a result of partnership with the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, for the deployment of digital live feeds from the Close Circuit Camera Television, CCTV.
Aside from reporting on road traffic, Omotoso further said the radio station also reports train and flight schedules.
The General Manager, Lagos Traffic Radio, Tayo Akanle commended the governor for laying fibre cables across the state which has enabled the implementation of the initiative, adding the station is committed to improving on its standard.
