Tokyo 2020: Obot makes case for Power lifters

By Ifeanyi Eduzor

Secretary General of Nigeria Power Lifting Federation, Sunny Obot, says there is need to give full support to the Federation as they look forward to representing the country well at Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Nigerian Power Lifters are presently in Kazakhstan for the Power Lifting World Championship which also serves  as  qualifier for the Olympics  and the Federation scribe believes paying more attention to the sports will spur the athletes to win more laurels for the country at international competitions.

“ Special athletes especially power lifters have done the country proud in the past at both the  Commonwealth and Olympic Games and as we prepare for both the All African Games and Olympics next year in Japan, there is no doubt that our athletes will do the country proud at both competitions.

“But there is need for corporate Nigeria and government at all levels to give financial backing to the Federation to produce more gold medalists for the country.

Obot believes that with adequate funding, the athletes will surpass their previous records and win more laurels for the country.

“ We have the athletes who are training day and night to make sure they are in top shape ahead of any major competition but there is need for corporate Nigeria to take interest in special sports because government cannot do it alone,” he concluded.
