Tijjani Bande hopeful of becoming UN General Assembly president

Prof. Tijjani Mohammad Bande is hopeful of becoming the new President of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

Outgoing president of the UNGA, María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés disclosed this, on Tuesday, in a joint media briefing with the Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, after a meeting with President Muhammad Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Bande is the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to UN.

Bande, a former Director-General of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Plateau State, was born at Zagga in present day Kebbi State.

He holds M.A. in Political Science from the Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, USA in 1981 and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto, Canada in 1987.

He was the Vice-Chancellor Usman Dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto, between 2004 and 2009.
