The Executive Chairman, Imo State Sports Commission, Fan Ndubuoke, has been bestowed with the prestigious honor of grand patron, Standard Tennis Development Club, Owerri.
Bestowing the honour on Ndubuoke last week, President of the club, Nze Okechukwu Akogu, noted that the Imo Sports Commission boss is a renowned sports administrator the tennis club is proud to identify with.
“We decided to honor Ndubuoke because of his pedigree. We are happy he accepted to be our grand patron. Moving forward, Ndubuoke after this investiture, is now one of us in this tennis club. His being our grand patron is a relationship that would positively rob off on our club,” Akogu stated.

He pointed out that the tennis club formed in 1992 has risen from a humble beginning to become a giant when it comes to the sport in the South East and South South zones of the country.
Ndubuoke who spoke after his investiture commended the tennis club for driving the development of tennis in the state, even as he assured members of the club that the Imo Sports Commission would partner them in the effort to rebuild Imo Sports.
Ndubuoke stressed that all hands are on deck to bring back Imo athletes who are competing for other states,insisting that the era of “legs drain” in Imo sports is over.
“We will create an enabling environment that would see Imo athletes return to compete for the state. We would boast their morale and make them have a sense of belonging. In the Commission, we will make the welfare of athletes a priority…that way, we would be sending out the right signals that would see our athletes return to compete for the state,” Ndubuoke said.
