TAFCAN, Lagos Chapter to organise meet for athletes ahead of African Games

The Track and Field Coaches Association of Nigeria (TAFCAN), Lagos Chapter, on Monday said it had concluded plans to hold a meet on May 31 for athletes.

The competition would hold at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos State.

Abiodun Ibrahim, the chapter’s secretary, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the meet was to update athletes and prepare them for the All Africa Games.

“The purpose of the competition is to update our athletes and get them busy in readiness for the All African Games and some of them that may have other engagements elsewhere,’’ he said.

Ibrahim said that a registration fee of N200 would be paid by participants, irrespective of the number of events they want to feature in.

Not less than 10 events namely, 100m , 200m, 400m, 110m Hurdles, 100m Hurdles, 4x100m relay, Long jump, Triple Jump and Shot put in the men and women’s categories will be featured.

Abiodun also said that electronic devices would be used at the meet.

He also said that payment of registration fees would be made at the bib number collection point, saying that entries must be submitted before May 29.

The 12th African Games will take place from 19 to 31 August, 2019 in Rabat, Morocco.

This will be the first time that the African Games is to be hosted by Morocco.

Nigeria hosted the 2nd edition of the Games in Lagos in January 1973. (NAN)
