S’West governors condemn Yoruba nation agitators, pick Sanwo-Olu as chairman

The South West Governors Forum, on Monday condemned the clamour for a Yoruba nation, and pledged their support for the unity of Nigeria.

 

 

The governors also announced Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the chairman of the forum, taking over after the death of Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.

 

 

The decisions were read by Governor Sanwo-Olu on behalf of the governors in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of the governors held at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja.

 

 

In attendance were the governors of Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Oyo along the host governor, Sanwo-Olu.

 

 

The governors congratulated President Bola Tinubu on the flagging off of the construction of Lagos-Calabar coastal road and the Lagos-Sokoto road and urged the federal government to complete other ongoing roads construction.

 

 

On the minimum wage, the governors commended the federal government for engaging with the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to find solution to the issue.

 

 

The forum congratulated Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa for wining the APC governorship ticket to contest in the coming governorship election and adopted ‘Isewafunlewa’ as the anthem for the south west.

 

 

 

The governors also commended the House of Representatives for passing the South West Development Commission bill.

 

 

On peace, the governors commended the security agencies and the Amotekun Corps for ensuring there is relative peace in the south west and affirms their support for the creation of state police.

 

 

In order to boost food security in the region, the forum advocated for a meeting of all commissioners of agriculture from each state to meet on food creation in all the states.
