The Surulere Local Government Council in Lagos has commenced capacity building training for 200 primary school teachers, to boost their job performances.
The council is partnering with the Association of Nigerian Academics in the UK (ANAUK) in providing the training.
The Chairman of the Surulere Branch of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Mr Olugbenga Oshoyomokun, told NAN on Tuesday in Lagos that the training would update the teachers in modern teaching techniques.
He said the training would also impact on the technology know-how of the teachers and make them to offer better training services to pupils.

“This is the only Local Government Council in the country that has started this initiative among the 774 local governments in Nigeria.
“It is the initiative of the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Tajudeen Ajide, to ensure that teachers are up to date with new teaching skills.’’
Oshoyomokun said that teachers, who benefited from the training would train other teachers in various schools in the local government.
He told beneficiaries of the training to reciprocate the gesture and use what they learnt for the benefits of their pupils.
The President of ANAUK, Mr Adedamola Aminu, said that his group embarked on the project, in a bid to give back to society, to make Nigeria better.
Aminu, an ex-Mayor and Counsellor in Education and Social Services at Lambeth community in the UK, said it was time to empower and provide good teaching skills to teachers in Nigeria.
According to him, the group aims to engender changes in teaching skills for better understanding for pupils, especially those, who are slow in learning.
Aminu advised teachers to understand the learning needs of their pupils to make the kids to excel in their quest for education. (NAN)
