Son faces murder charge after shooting father nine times in front of family members

 

 

A 31-year old man,Kirk Edward Hazlett III, is facing second degree murder charge after shooting his father nine times killing him in front of family members.

Kirk who lives in Minnesota shot his father,64-year-old Kirk Edward Hazlett II, in front of fellow relatives at a hunting cabin in Hinckley on November 15.

According to the police, Kirk shot his father in the head once with the remaining shots fired on his body

Police were called on 911 by a caller who told them he was informed by two men that Kirk had shot his father on the night of the incident.

After getting direction to the house, tthey arrived at the cabin at 8:44pm and found Edward in the pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds.

Narrating the incident to the police, the son’s uncle told police that he, another man, and the victim were finishing dinner when they saw someone walk onto the property with a gun on the trail camera.

The uncle said while he went to fetch his gun, he heard three gunshots and when he returned, he saw Hazlett standing inside the cabin with a gun and had shot his father adding that the victim was still alive at this point because he could see him breathing.

He added that the son ordered him and others to sit on the couch and they watch how the son shot his father one more time in the back of the head, ensuring he was dead after which he walked away with their cell phones.

The uncle further told the police that prior to the incident, Hazlett was not on good terms with his father and relations for a long time, adding that he intentionally killed his father in an “execution style.”

After killing his father, Hazlett reportedly called police around 9:18pm in Isanti County after which they tracked his phone to State Highway 48, eight miles from the scene of the incident.

Documents filed by the police before the court documents indicated that a month to the shooting, Hazlett had threatened his father and was reported to the police leading to the police warning him to stay away from the cabin.

Apart from murder charge, Hazlett is also facing two counts of kidnapping, and one count of first-degree burglary.
