Sokoto gov. distributes 120 GT Bank assisted bicycles to schools

Governor Aminu waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, on Thursday, unveiled the distribution of 120 bicycles donated by Guaranty Trust Bank to four secondary schools in the state under its rural empowerment scheme.

Distributing the bicycles, school bags and exercise books to the students of Government Day Secondary School Takatuku in Bodinga Local Government Area of the state, Governor Tambuwal thanked the bank for the gesture and urged other organisations to as part of their social corporate responsibility emulate GTBank.

The governor further said the intervention which covers schools in SILAME, Takatuku, Ummaruma and Tambuwal would no doubt enhance students’ interest in education.

The governor, while assuring his administration commitment to welcoming and supporting any effort aimed at complementing its development strides, also urged organisations enjoying government patronage to intervene in whatever form for the benefit of the state.

Earlier, Managing Director of GT Bank, represented by Divisional Head North West, Ahmed Liman, said Sokoto State joins the list of the first states to benefit from the initiative nationwide.

The bank chief expressed the hope that through the gift of mobility More children would not only cover the distance in their education but stand a Bette chance at beating the cycle of poverty.

He, therefore, commended Governor Tambuwal for his commitment to moving the state forward and said he looked forward to other opportunities of partnering with the state government for the benefit of the  people.

In a welcome remark, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in the state,  Dr. Abubakar Guiwa, thanked GT Bank for its intervention in the development of education in the state and urged other organisations to emulate the kind gesture.
