Shiites’ protest: Police, DSS deployed around FCT

Security operatives, comprising the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), have taken over strategic positions at the business area of Banex, Wuse 2, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, in anticipation of a further protest by Shiite members.

It was gathered that the aggrieved Islamic sect may have been planning to continue their protest, but this time, against the arrest and detention of some of its members.

The cordoning of the area, it was learnt, hampered free pedestrian and vehicular movement.

“I want to reassure citizens, particularly residents of the FCT, that adequate security measures have been emplaced to protect all Nigerians in line with the presidential directives to the IGP.

“We have security cordon around the city,” Mba said.
