The South-West zonal chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that the only government of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the zone would be flushed out in 2023, expressing the confidence that, the days of Seyi Makinde in Oyo State as governor on the ticket of the PDP are numbered.
Making this assertion during an interview with our correspondent in Lagos at the weekend was the acting Zonal Caretaker Secretary of the APC in the south-west, Mr Ayo Afolabi who said that, by 2023, “We will sing the non-dimities for Governor Seyi Makinde,” asserted further that, there would be no chance for any other party apart from the APC to hibernate anywhere within the south-west.
Afolabi, who was a strong member of the famous National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), that fought the military to a standstill to restore democracy in the country, was reacting to members of the PDP who are expressing the readiness to increase their party’s presence in the zone in the coming 2022 governorship elections coming up in Ekiti and Osun States.
According to him, their confidence to create more inroads into the south-west zone in both 2022 and 2023 is laughable, saying, they are not to blame for day dreaming because day dreaming is normal in democracy.
His words: “I would rather laugh that off because it is laughable. I regard that as a joke from unserious bunch of infantile or juvenile politicians who doesn’t actually know what is going on in the political arena.
“… is it Oyo State that would be the vanguard to be able to take any of our states from us? The crisis in Oyo State chapter of the PDP today is so huge that they have three other executive committees. The centre cannot hold. All those who brought the present governor, Seyi Makinde into office, are all presently in a camp against him. The party even went out of its way to cast a vote of no confidence in the governor. So, I don’t know who can then dare to do it for them.”
Speaking further, the South-west APC spokesman said, “we don’t need to bother; we are waiting for 2023 when we would sing the non-dimities for Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State himself because we are taking our government in Oyo State back and so the South-West would be back to its monolithic set up in the region,” pointing out that, “Seyi Makinde’s days are numbered in office in Oyo State as we will not tolerate any other political party having a hold on the south-west from 2023.”
Concluding, Afolabi disclosed that, “The South-West chapter of the APC is very prepared, and working assiduously to ensure that, come 2022, we retain our Ekiti State, our Osun State and use that to propel ourselves for the national elections of 2023,” praying that, “God being with us, we will retain the South-West and even oust the only PDP government that is hibernating within our territory.”
