“The Nigerian women especially deserve to be celebrated for their roles in building our homes and nation. The Nigerian women have distinguished themselves in all fields of endeavour. They are indeed, our pride.
“It is in the overall interest of the society to remove all encumbrances that stand before women in our society. It is in this sense that I see this year theme of the International Women’s Day, #EmbraceEquity, as apt.
“I am proud to say that the ninth National Assembly has been committed to gender equity despite the setback which some gender bills suffered in the constitution review process.
“Just as I had said before, the bills can still be re-visited and their concerns satisfactorily addressed, maybe by the next Assembly.
“In that view, there need to be proper sensitisation and patient lobbying of lawmakers about the issues involved. That is what democracy is all about.
“The National Assembly is always there for the good of all and will never tolerate discrimination against the Nigerian women,” the statement said.
