Scrap NYSC. Nigerians react to court ruling on Adeosun certificate forgery saga

Pascal Oparada

Today’s court verdict that erstwhile Nigeria’s finance minister did not need the NYSC certificate to serve in the government has confused Nigerians.

According to them, the court ruling invalidates the necessity of possessing the NYSC certificate as a prerequisite for a job should also be ruled illegal.

They say employers who require that candidates possess the certificate will be doing so in error in the light of today’s ruling.

@drpeng said the ruling does not make sense because parts of Nigeria’s constitution stipulates that candidates who seek employment must have served the compulsory one year.

“The court has ruled that Former minister, Adeosun, didn’t need NYSC certificate to serve

You don’t need an NYSC certificate to hold a political office but you need it to secure a 30k job.

Nigeria’s law is designed to eradicate the poor.”

@KelvinOssai asked how the court can say that.

“How can Court agree that you don’t need NYSC certificate to hold a political office in Nigeria, yet NYSC is a requirement for getting a private or government job?

25k job requirements be like, 5years experience post NYSC!!!

What sort of confused country is this Nigeria set,” he said.

Others said the issue is not about having an NYSC certificate but that the former minister forged her certificate.
