Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday commenced the commissioning of 36 roads and five bridges with the opening of the Abiola-Onijemo link road with bridge at Obawole, Ifako-Ijaiye local government.
The governor also officially opened and drove through the reconstructed Alapere Pedestrian bridge in Ketu, Alapere.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, governor Sanwo-Olu said the new Abiola-Onijemo road and bridge linked two communities who have been separated for several decades as a result of bad roads.
“It is a vital infrastructure that links two communities that have been separated for decades. This is purposeful governance. It shows the commitment of our administration to address challenges faced by communities for years,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He added: “This project is about changing lives. It will impact the lives of the people positively and improve connectivity.”
Sanwo-Olu urged the people in the two communities to ‘protect and maintain the property’ and take ownership of it.
The Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola said before the bridge was constructed, the communities relied on a wooden bridge to connect which posed both health and safety risks
He said the road and bridge would bring socio-economic benefits to the people by enhancing traffic flow and connectivity, increase property values and investment opportunities as well as public safety
The project covers a total length of 643 meters and connects the college road through Ajayi street in Ogba to Aruna, Obawole and Iju-Ishaga.
