Lagos State government has declared Tuesday, August 20 as Work Free Day for civil servants in celebration of the ISESE Day.

ISESE Day is marked by Yoruba traditional religion worshipers to celebrate traditional institutions and heritage.

There have been clamour by traditional religion worshippers for the government to officially recognize traditional religious institutions and declare public holidays for them the same way it’s done for Christians and Muslims on Christmas and Eid-el Kabir celebrations.

In a circular dated August 19 and signed by Lagos Head of Service, Bode Agoro, it directed public servants to observe August 20 as holiday ” to give support to traditional institutions.”

“It is hereby notified for general information that this year’s ISESE Day will hold on Tuesday August 20, 2024.

In emphasizing commitment to give support to traditional institutions, and enhance the promotion of traditional culture and heritage , Mr Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved that Tuesday August 20,2024 be declared a Work Free Day for public servants in the state,” the circular stated.
