Sanwo-Olu charges agencies on security, professionalism

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has charged the state government’s agencies to discharge their duties responsibly, be courteous as well as to ensure safety of lives and property of people of the state.

During Tuesday’s tour of state agencies including the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), the Lagos Taskforce, Lagos Neighbourhood Service Corps (LNSC), the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and the Lagos  State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), the governor said security was paramount to his administration and as such the staff must be ready to assist the administration fulfill its promises to Lagosians.

He further said the tour was to mark the 61days of his administration in office.

At the RRS parade ground, the governor, who was in company of his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Folashade Jaji, and Head of Service (HOS), Muri Okunola, promised to improve the welfare of the officers and provide tools such as bullet proofs, VSO, much vehicles as well as approve refresher courses for them.

He also promised to ensure men of the RRS injured on duty are giving speedy treatments at various state hospitals

“Each day means a lot for us. Lagosians expect so much from us and you. We can do a lot better. We can tell our hospitals to start treating you people immediately if you are injured in the course of duty.

“We will give instructions that any emergency that  occurs to men of RRS should be given attention immediately.  We will also work on your special allowance.

“We will maintain your vehicles, provide uniforms. We will get you more tools to work with but let us humility in the way you discharge your duty.

“We want to upgrade RRS so that people with criminal mind do hot have a say in Lagos,” the governor said.

At the safety arena, Oshodi, while addressing joint section of men of LAGESC, LASAMBUS, TASKFORCE, and LNSC, the governor also promised to provide tools for the agencies.  He urged them to avoid financial inducement and be courteous in their duty.

“Today is the 61 days we came into government. You have been brought here to serve Lagosians and the essence of governance is to serve the people.

“Our responsibility is to create environment that is safe and secure. You are to support us to achieve our purposes.

“Don’t perform your duty with impunity. Government is not all about enforcement but to correct the people.

“It is when they refuse that we allow law to take its course. Security is paramount to us. I don’t want to hear issues of you extorting money because you have to discharge your duty. That is a crime.

“Let the public see better output from you. Show courtesy and civility. Security is everybody’s business,” he said.
