A mobile police officer on guard duty in Afromedia Estate, along the Lagos Badagry expressway has been attacked by armed robbers.
The Nigerian Xpress learnt that the robbers struck at the community at about 10pm, shooting the policeman, who was alone when they came and made away with his rifle without attacking any of the residents.
It was further learnt that there were always two officers on duty, but the victim was alone when the robbers struck.
The victim, identified as Sergeant Tubosun Owolabi, it was gathered, has been guarding the community with his colleagues for over a year.
A resident, who identified himself, as Charles, told our reporter that the robbers came with a motorcycle and took the officer unaware.
He said, “It was about 10 pm. He was alone when the robbers, operating with a motorcycle came. They shot him in the mouth and took his riffle away. We thought he was dead, but thank God he survived. He usually stays with me in my shop sometimes.”

Another resident, Mr. Philip Ogala noted that they thought the robbers were Okada riders. “We thought they were Okada riders. But it is prohibited for Okada to enter the community in the night. They came with two motorcycles. When we heard the gunshot, we ran away.”
Confirming the report, a police officer at Okoko Police Station, who spoke with our reporter but did not want to be named because he was not authorised to speak with the press, said when the news came to them, the anti-robbery team went to the scene to rescue the victim.
He said, “The victim is a mobile police officer. They usually guard the community. He is not from our station. His name is Sergeant Tubosun Owolabi. It happened at Captain Close. Our anti-robbery team quickly went to the scene but the robbers had escaped with his riffle. He is responding to treatment at Igando General Hospital.”
